A CELEBRATION, information and networking event hosted by Tameside Champions brought the community together to find out more about building connections and support and opportunities available.
Residents were invited to attend the free event at Hyde Town Hall to find out more about Tameside Champions and how to build connections in the community and access local support services and organisations.
The event was opened by the Civic Mayor of Tameside Cllr Janet Cooper, who welcomed the attendees and Tameside Champions groups, as well as community organisations including Active Tameside, Be Well Tameside, Caribbean and African Health Network (CAHN), Neighbourhood Watch, Action Together, Diversity Matters, NHS CCG and many more.
She said: “It was very special that we are able to get together in person after two years of a global pandemic, where so many of us have had to spend time away from loved ones, unable to socialise or get out and about.
“We hope this represents a shift away from restrictions and a move towards social and physical freedom.”
All the groups made presentations, held demonstrations or conducted talks and attendees and stall holders had the opportunity to network.
The Community Champions programme for Tameside was launched in 2020 to bring communities and individuals together to provide important and relevant messaging on Covid-19 and promote health and wellbeing initiatives in the borough.
In celebration of what has been achieved by the Champions groups since 2020 an award ceremony took place which showcased the great work across Tameside in challenging times.
Cllr Brenda Warrington, the council’s executive leader, closed the day saying: “I look forward to seeing the Community Champions Programme continuing to go from strength to strength as we approach the two-year anniversary.
“As Covid restrictions ease, we look forward to more plans for more face-to-face engagements, a more inclusive sharing of information and a widening of the programme to more diverse groups to amplify the voices of our most vulnerable and create a legacy for our community.”
