STALYBRDGE’S aim to go bigger and better saw robot dancers and talking birds entertain hundreds of people as its Street Fest kicked off.
Not even the damp weather on the evening of Friday, March 11 put people off sampling the delights of the street food stalls that packed around Armentieres Square.
And a bit extra was unveiled, with Global Grooves’ IOLA 2.0 and her Robots turning on the lights with a dazzling outdoor performance after entertaining those inside the Civic Hall, along with Sarah England Dance School and Stalybridge Old Band.
For a time, it looked like Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham would be the main attraction as he took a tour, along with Stalybridge and Hyde MP and frequent visitor Jonathan Reynolds.
People flocked to the politician, who posed for selfies and photos, talked to kids and even signed autographs before launching the Town of Culture festivities nearby.
Stalybridge’s next Street Fest, which is back on the calendar after a successful trial run last year, will be held on Friday, April 8.
