Co-op shoppers help to raise £2,852 for Emmaus Mossley

HOMELESSNESS charity Emmaus Mossley has received a funding boost thanks to the latest Co-op Local Community Fund pay-out to good causes.

A cheque for £2,852 was presented to community members from Emmaus Mossley by their local branch, Co-op Mossley.

The funding will be used to carry out improvements to the Emmaus Mossley community garden, improving the space for people supported by the charity.

Alison Hill, Director of Emmaus Mossley, said: “The support we have received from Co-op and their members is fantastic.

“The funds raised will help us to improve our garden, creating a better space for relaxation, biodiversity, food growing and social interaction.

“On behalf of everyone at Emmaus Mossley, sincere thanks to Co-op and all the local members who selected our cause.”

Emmaus Mossley, based on Queen Street, supports 26 formerly homeless people by providing them with a home and work in a community setting.

The charity runs a social enterprise, selling donated and upcycled furniture, household goods, clothes, bric-a-brac and vintage wares.

In the past five years, Co-op members have raised £100 million for local communities, causes and charity partners.

Sian Birch, Co-op Member Pioneer, said: “It’s been a pleasure bringing the Co-op in Mossley and Emmaus together to make a positive difference.

“Visiting the community garden last summer after lockdown was lifted, I could already start to see the benefit the Local Community Fund would be to the Emmaus companions.”

Co-op members are encouraged to pick a local cause from a selection that will make real difference in their local area.

When Co-op members buy selected branded products and services, 2p from every pound they spend supports community organisations and local causes, through the Local Community Fund.

  1. I used to frequent Emma’s to buy bits and pieces for my home. That was until one of their van drivers reversed into my brand new 4×4. It was all caught on camera. I received no apology in fact the manager there was very rude. When I found out they employ ex criminals I started going somewhere else. The charity is not completely above board. I would definitely not give them a penny any more.
