VOLUNTEERS have helped put a popular Stalybridge social event for older people back on the calendar – and people are flocking in.
After a successful trial last year of tea dances, Stalybridge Getting Together has been formed to put on the fortnightly gathering at the town’s New Labour Club.
People came from Manchester and Chadderton to attend the first of the events on Friday, February 11, which had a Valentine’s Day theme.
And the numbers certainly surprised those organising it, many of whom were involved in the Dukinfield and Stalybridge Rotary Club tea dances – so many showed up.
Stalybridge Getting Together said: “What a fantastic first session back.
“We welcomed so many people through the door today for a special Valentine’s social afternoon.
“It was great to see so many new faces.”
Entry to the Stalybridge Getting Together events, the next of which takes place on Friday, March 11 from 2pm until 4pm, costs £2.
Each event sees a raffle, hot beverages, cake and a DJ.
