Stylish Riot column – a look at Tameside’s music scene

Welcome to Stylish Riot Monthly. The Correspondent’s look at the music scene in the area with Sam Gosling, manager of Stalybridge’s Zeros Bar.

THIS column is going to showcase the best of Tameside’s acts. If a band is out there that you need to hear, you will read about them here first every month.

In this first column, I have decided to focus on three bands from the borough to watch. Here we go!

The Capitals

A punchy melodic indie-rock band. The Capitals have been featured on BBC Introducing and championed by the likes of Clint Boon (Inspiral Carpets) and Mani (Stone Roses). They are driven by charismatic lead singer and songwriter, George Halligan. Alongside Hyde-based George are long-time friend Aiden McCarron on lead guitar and Liam Nicholson on drums. After having a break, The Capitals are back and if catchy indie pop is your thing, give them a listen

New RevolutionA young and ambitious up-and-coming four-piece alternative rock band. Consisting of frontman and guitarist  Aiden James, Hyde-based lead guitarist Zak Hadfield, bass player Matthew Seddon and drummer Loz Riley – New Revolution aim to resonate with their audience through their uncontrollably energetic performances, along with their unique mix of catchy vocal melodies paired with politically-charged, poetic lyrics; ambient to aggressive guitars, punchy, melodic basslines and bombastic thunderous drums.

With an average age of 16, this band is truly one to watch. Debut single Stay at Home Pessimist is about to be released and they have some huge upcoming gigs in the pipeline including an appearance at Manchester’s prestigious Night and Day Café in December. 2022 is going to be a huge year for this band, so watch this space!
