MORE of Stalybridge town centre will be spruced up over the coming weeks after a new renovation project was started.
Volunteers from Stalybridge Town Team have already had their paintbrushes out as the locks on the canal running through it are being done up.
Already ones around Armentieres Square are looking better and cleaner in the next stage of work to make Stalybridge as pretty as possible.
Litter picks still go on regularly and overgrowing trees have been pruned, making walkways safer and easier on the eye.
Now after pairing up with the Canal and Rivers Trust and Tesco supermarket, the waterway through the heart of the area is on the Town Team’s agenda.
And as it promised, recoating the locks is just the beginning.
A spokesman for Stalybridge Town Team said: “We will be working in partnership with these agencies going forward to enhance the canal area.
“This is an exciting time for Stalybridge and we are so happy to continue playing our part in making it a place you all love to visit, shop, live and work.”
