Foodbank starved of donations

A STALYBRIDGE foodbank is struggling for donations.

Community champion Steve Barton, who runs Barty’s Foodbank, has issued an appeal for much-needed supplies.

Steven, whose foodbank helps to feed between 40 and 50 people each week, would like tinned food, pasta and fruit juice in particular.

He said: “I am struggling for donations which have recently dried up.

“People have been generous throughout the pandemic when our demand increased greatly.

“It remains high which is why I would ask people to keep giving.”

Steven, who was last year awarded the British Empire Medal for his charitable work, has operated a foodbank for the last seven years, initially in Ridge Hill.

But last year he relocated to a town centre location, the car park at The New Stalybridge Labour Club after Manchester Cabins gave him a container.

Steven also operates foodbanks at four local schools: Wild Bank, Stalybridge; Micklehurst Primary; St Mary’s, Dukinfield, and Buckton Vale, Carrbook.
