THERE will be fun for all the family as Stalybridge Big Party in The Park comes to Cheetham Park on Sunday, August 22.
The event is being hosted by Stalybridge Festival Committee to make up for the disappointment of cancelling Stalybridge Carnival for the last two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Organising Secretary Ian Cochrane explained the event starts at 11am and includes live entertainment from 1pm. There will be a Fun Dog Show, a large family fun fair, hot food stalls and a large number of trader and community stalls.
He added: “The focal point of the arena will be a 5m high Maypole which we want to use as a symbol of hope and renewal as we emerge from the pandemic, with NHS staff encouraged to attend for our public show of support for the fantastic work they have done in the last year.
“The two-minute round of applause for the NHS and other key workers will be led by the Civic Mayor Councillor Janet Cooper at 1pm.
“This is an opportunity for everyone to come together, show our appreciation to the NHS and have a great day of family fun.
Ian added: “There will be lots of activities for all the family to have a great day in the park and help us raise extra funds towards next year’s Carnival.”
For animal lovers there will also be a Fun Dog Show starting at 1.30pm. Anyone wanting to enter their dogs can register on the day. The entry fee is £2 per category.
There will be five categories: dog with the loveliest eyes; dog with the waggiest tail; cutest puppy; best presented dog; and best rescue dog.
The winner of each category will also be competing for the title of Best Dog In Show.
