BORN out of two foodie’s passions for Indian cuisine, Spicetrove is a quirky new concept that specialises in regional curry kits with a difference.
Jill Berriman and Saskia Snioch, Year 3 teachers at Flowery Field Primary, Hyde, first floated the idea for their eco-friendly business seven years ago before finally taking the plunge in November 2020.
Their unique range of 10 different curry kits serve up some very special and unusual, not to mention delicious, regional dishes from around India.
Jill, 38, said: “Myself and Saskia have always been passionate about cooking, particularly Indian food, and we have spent a lot of time discussing spice blends and our culinary exploits.

“We’ve been talking about possibly creating our own business for as long as we’ve known each other, and we’ve drawn on all our extensive travel and cooking experiences to launch Spicetrove.”
As eco-conscience individuals, Jill and Saskia have made it their mission to ensure all aspects of the business focus on sustainability.
The recipe cards for the curry kits, for example, are made up of t-shirt off cuts, posting materials are recyclable and the bags and labels within are biodegradable; soon to be compostable.
And they have also linked up with the non-profit organisation The Invisible Girl Project (IGP) which is working to end female gendercide in India.
Jill continued: “We first got involved with IGP on International Women’s Day and we donated 50 per cent of our profits to them, and we intend to donate a further 10 per cent on Mother’s Day.
“We felt a strong connection with them, and we will continue to work with and support their cause as we grow and develop the business.
“We have been quite surprised by the response to Spicetrove in only our first six months of business. Our kits have been so popular we are now stocked in a handful of retail outlets across the UK.
“We do hope that, with the easing of coronavirus restrictions, we can start selling at kids markets once they open up. They are available online through our website too.”
