Man dies in Stalybridge road collision

POLICE have confirmed one person died in a collision between two cars that saw a cordon close Stalybridge roads.

The Greater Manchester force says at about 11pm on Sunday, May 9, a grey Ford Focus failed to give way at the junction of Bayley Street and Bridge Street, before colliding with an Audi A3.

A man thought to have been an occupant of the Ford was pronounced dead at the scene and officers sealed the area off for several hours.

The driver of the Audi, a 24-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.

Enquiries are ongoing in relation to the collision and PC Darren White of Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this terribly difficult time.

“A full investigation is underway and we encourage anyone who witnessed the incident, especially those who may have provided first aid at scene or anyone with information to please get in touch.”
