ZOOM council meetings will soon be a thing of the past.
Unless the Government introduces an extension to the emergency Covid-19 legislation to permit virtual meetings, which it has indicated will not happen, normal meetings in person will resume after May 7.Mossley Town Council has hurriedly organised its annual meeting for May 5 so it can be held remotely.
However, the Town Council’s annual parish meeting, scheduled for May 19, will be face-to-face.
There is an added complication as the George Lawton Hall, when the Town Council meets, is to remain a Covid-19 vaccination centre for the foreseeable future so they will need to find a new venue for meetings.
However, the situation may change as Hertfordshire County Council has instigated legal proceedings for permission to continue to hold meetings remotely so that ruling could have wider implications.
The Government, in a letter to local authorities, said it is not possible to bring forward emergency legislation on this issue at this time due to pressure on parliamentary time.
