Christmas Waste and Recycling Collections

TAMESIDE bin crews will continue to work hard over the festive season, but some collection days will change for some households.

There will be no brown bin collections at all across the borough from December 25 until January 11.

Anyone due a collection on the bank holidays – Christmas Day (Friday, December 25); Monday, December 28, or New Year’s Day (Friday, January 1) – can check the list below for when their bins will be emptied instead. All other collections are due to run as normal.

  • Friday, December 25: If you are due a green (general waste) bin collection, it will be collected on Tuesday, December 29.

If you are due a blue (paper recycling waste) bin collection, it will be collected on Wednesday, December 30.

If you are due a black (comingled recycling waste) bin collection, it will be collected on Thursday, December 31.

  • Monday, December 28: If you are due a green (general waste) bin collection, it will be collected on Monday, January 4.

If you are due a black (comingled recycling waste) or a blue (paper recycling waste) bin collection, it will be collected on Tuesday, January 5.

  • Friday, January 1: If you are due a green (general waste) bin collection, it will be collected on Thursday, January 7.

If you are due a blue (paper recycling waste) bin collection, it will be collected on Wednesday, January 6.

If you are due a black (comingled recycling waste) bin collection, it will be collected on Friday, January 8.

Real Christmas trees can be left out with your brown bin for recycling from Monday, January 11. The council will collect any additional recyclable waste which is left out with your black or blue recycling bins in a clear or labelled bag.

There will be no bulky household waste collections between December 28 and January 4. If you do not already have the council bin app, download it for updates and alerts for your Christmas waste and recycling collection arrangements.

Councillor Allision Gwynne, Tameside Council executive member, said: “Thank you so much to our hard-working bin crews who work over the festive season to ensure collections go smoothly, which in turn helps residents manage their waste and recycling.

“Most people’s bin days won’t change but please do check so you can be sure you are putting it out on the right day.

“By recycling more we can all do our bit to keep waste to a minimum and by being mindful of where we park our cars, we can help waste vehicles gain access to all roads and bins.”
