FINALS Day at Denton Golf Club saw the four matchplay knockouts reach their conclusions.

Connor Sutton won the men’s singles and the Victory Cup, defeating Nigel Brookes in the final.

Angela Ellam lifted the Whittaker Bowl for the women’s singles after beating Linda Leung in the final.

The men’s doubles and the Committee Major went to David Sibanda and Amir Nazir who overcame Len Walker and Terry Pottage in the final.

The Mixed Knockout went to Lucy and Graham Pollit who defeated Lana and Joe Mulhearn.

There was a further piece of silverware for Lucy, who with Jim Cox, won the Myers Mixed Major with a score of 74.

Gaynor Wood and Ian McIlvanney (77.5) were runners-up.

The Memorial Cup, a new competition for seniors, was won by Colin Ingham with 40 points in the Stableford.

Runner-up was Frank Goodwin (38) while third place went to David Watts (38).

The monthly medal was won by Guy Hamer (67) from Joe Nuttall (68) and Chris Large (71).

There have been two holes-in-one with David Kelly scoring an ace at the 156-yard 13th. He used an eight iron and the ball disappeared into the cup after one bounce.

The other ace came from Daniel Bardsley at the fifth. He had been taken along by father Ian as his guest.

Denton are carrying out a major programme of works to their course over the winter.

This includes drainage work on the second and fourth holes, thinning trees around greens that block sunlight and air flow, removing a collapsing bunker on the 18th hole and providing a new practice chipping area.
