MOSSLEY has a virtual spectacular planned to replace the traditional Christmas lights switch on in the town centre and Micklehurst.
This year the ‘Mossley Christmas Big Street Switch On’ takes place on Saturday, November 28, from 6pm when residents have to venture no further than their front doorstep.
They are asked to open their door at 6pm and join in ‘Jingle On The Step’ singing Jingle Bells with bells and chimes.
Residents are also asked to decorate a street facing window.
That will be immediately followed by the ‘Mossley Christmas Cracker Concert’ on YouTube featuring Britain’s Got Talent winner John Courtenay, Kyla Brox Band and other Mossley acts.
Town councillor Pat Mullin, one of the organisers, said: “In these grim times, the community has decided to bring some light to Christmas festivities.
“As Christmas community light-ups were impossible, on social distance safety grounds, we are urging everyone to light up their windows and stand on their own door step joining in with the community singing of Jingle Bells at 6pm on Saturday.
“It will be followed by a special online concert featuring Jon Courtenay, Kyla Brox Band and many more exciting Mossley performers.”
The initiative is backed by Mossley Town Council.
