Road closure confusion

RESIDENTS need not worry as Wakefield Road, Stalybridge, is not being shut for more than five months.

In its weekly bulletin, Transport for Greater Manchester informed the public the road between 96 Wakefield Road and the junction of Blandford Street would be closed from Monday, October 19 to Wednesday, March 31.

Such a lengthy closure suggested major works taking place.

The good news, however, is the road will be shut for only nine days between November 28 and December 6 while resurfacing work takes place.

The work permit states the resurfacing must be completed within a five-month timespan and TfGM had reported that.

Tameside Council added their website automatically picked up dates from the permit, but they are amending this with the correct dates of the work.

A diversion will be in place and advertised nearer the time.

Advanced notices will also be put up on street ahead of the work and the closure will displayed on the @tmbc_highways Twitter account.
