Green clean after community effort

PEOPLE grouped together to make sure the area in which they live is a whole lot cleaner – and they even had some superhero help.

Residents in Haughton Green and south Denton took part in a socially distant litter pick in a bid to ‘Clean the Green’.

The initiative — launched by Denton South councillors George Newton, Jack Naylor and Claire Reid — encouraged local residents to do an hour’s litter picking on their daily walks.

And over the weekend of June 13 and 14, dozens of families signed up to have litter pick pack, which were provided by the Hilton Hotel on Manchester’s Deansgate and SUEZ recycling and recovery UK, dropped off at their homes ready for their weekend walks.

In the end, an amazing 100 bags of litter was collected – and Spider-Man even joined in the clearing operation.

The Denton South councillors said: “We were delighted that so many local families signed up to our litter pick.

“It’s a shame that we have to organise things like this, but it just goes to show that the vast majority of people have pride in our community.”
