Stalybridge Town Centre back open for business

WITH the UK’s lockdown starting to be lifted on June 15, over the coming weeks all shops in Stalybridge will be re-opening.

Stalybridge Town Team would like to show its support for the businesses of Stalybridge by welcoming them back to the town centre.

While we are past the peak of this wave of coronavirus, the world as we knew it has changed and retailers are going to have to adapt to new ways of operating.

But the most important factor is Stalybridge retail is back! Not only to survive but to thrive, they need your custom.

Town Team chair Ray Harrison said: “We have a strong and thriving business community here in Stalybridge which is determined to overcome the challenges the pandemic has presented us with.

“During lockdown many businesses were able to access the Small Business Rate Relief Grant, which the traders informed me Tameside Council processed very quickly enabling them to access the much-needed financial support to keep them going while their businesses were unable to trade.

“Many of the businesses complimented the local authority on their speed and efficiency at getting these monies out to them.”

Ray added: “We hope that ‘cabin-fevered’ shoppers will be eager to venture out to our beautiful town centre and reconnect with their favourite shops.”

Ray has been visiting businesses in the town as they have been working hard to adapt and prepare their premises for re-opening, making them Covid-19 safe as per the Government’s guidelines.

This has entailed deep cleaning, new signage, social distance markers, sneeze screens, hand sanitisers to name but a few of the measures.

Ray thanked the businesses for their advertisements supporting these pages to welcome the re-opening of Stalybridge.

He said: “We have a vast array of businesses who are looking forward to welcoming their customers back and hopefully new ones.

“As a community it is the face to face connection with people that is important as well as keeping the businesses thriving.

“The lockdown has been a very strange and lonely time for many of us and to return to our beautiful town and see familiar faces, share some of our lockdown stories and simply re-connect is vitally important for all of us for our mental, physical and emotional health – the community of Stalybridge welcomes you all back!

“Our community spirit has been at work during the lockdown with the Town Team volunteers working hard to maintain the town with the planting of more than 1,200 plants in the hardwood planters in Armentieres Square and more recently the stripping out and replanting of the overgrown flower beds at the front of The Hub for Stalybridge Town Team volunteers’ cabin.

“You may not be familiar with The Hub yet – it was due to have an official opening during the first week of lockdown but unfortunately due to the pandemic this has had to be delayed.”

Watch the local press for details of the official opening, which is hopefully not too long now.

Ray is passionate about Stalybridge, explaining: “I would encourage anybody who would like to join our volunteer group to email me at

“Our volunteer group is open to all – we have monthly clean-ups and other volunteering activities – if you would like more information about becoming involved and ongoing projects and upcoming events in the town.”
