Man charged over Stalybridge stabbing

A MAN has been charged over a stabbing incident in Stalybridge.

Police cordons were spotted on Portland Place after the apparent altercation on the evening of Sunday, June 21.Now Dukinfield man Tony Coombs has been charged with Section 18 assault – causing grievous bodily harm with intent – attempted robbery and possession of a bladed article.

At about 6.30pm on June 21, police and ambulance staff attended the scene following reports a man had received a stab wound to the back and the suspect had fled the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital and treated for his injuries, which were believed to be serious but not life threatening.

On Monday afternoon, following enquiries and searches of a number of addresses by the Tameside District Tasking Team, Mr Coombs, 38, was located and arrested on Caroline Street in Stalybridge.

Detectives from Tameside CID investigating the stabbing, interviewed the suspect and during the early hours of Tuesday, June 23, charged him.
