Stalybridge Carnival Weekend cancelled

STALYBRIDGE Festival Committee has cancelled this year’s Stalybridge Carnival Weekend scheduled for June 27-28, citing ‘unprecedented times’ as the reason.

While arrangements for the carnival weekend were at an advanced stage, the organising committee felt it was in the interest of all parties to postpone the event.

However, the festival committee is determined to reschedule the Stalybridge Spring Show, which was planned for Sunday, May 10 with an ambitious programme of events.

It is hoped that to be able to deliver this in Cheetham Park once the current restrictions on large community gatherings have been lifted and provide an opportunity for the local community to come together and have what the Archbishop of Canterbury said “have the mother and father of all parties after this crisis” and show gratitude to the hard work and sacrifice being made by NHS staff and other key workers at this time.

Plans for the rescheduled spring show include:

  • Young people dancing around a five-metre maypole.
  • Fun dog show.
  • Large family fun fair.
  • Large number of craft and local community stalls.
  • Hot food stalls.
  • Live entertainment.
