A TAMESIDE man who was diagnosed with the coronavirus has died.
The unknown victim, who was in his 80s and had underlying health conditions, passed away at Tameside Hospital, where he was being cared for.
The Government is expected to ban public gatherings in the coming days as concerns over the condition spread.
Several countries have announced a ‘lockdown’, with schools in the Republic of Ireland closed until March 29.
Now this news has brought the dangers of the COVID-19 virus to the centre of the Tameside community.
A Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust spokesperson said: “Sadly, we can confirm that a man who was being cared for at our hospital and had tested positive for COVID-19, has died.
“His family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”
