Celtic junior coaches follow in footsteps

THE next generation of Stalybridge Celtic Juniors’ coaches are making great strides.Youngsters, all aged under 21, have spent 12 months volunteering alongside more experienced coaches at the soccer school and with Celtic Juniors’ mini soccer teams.

Some are new to the club while others currently play for older teams and first volunteered as part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Over the course of the last year, they have all grown in confidence hugely and are continually improving the skills they need to work with young players.

Mike Taylor, Stalybridge Celtic Juniors’ chairman, said: “Seeing young people volunteer to help players younger than themselves is brilliant.

“There are so many distractions for teenagers today, but this group have gone from strength to strength.

“I’ve seen their confidence, teamwork and understanding of coaching grow so much. They are now able to deliver practices themselves while their coach mentors watch on.”

Stalybridge Celtic Juniors’ soccer school runs every Saturday 10.30am to noon and is open to children of all abilities aged between four and 12. The drop-in sessions cost £3.50 each week.
