Guide Bridge Service Centre in fast lane to another award

GUIDE Bridge MOT & Service Centre drove off with a major prize at the Pride of Tameside Business Awards. They were named Small Business of the Year from an eight-strong shortlist at the awards ceremony which was held at Dukinfield Town Hall.

And it followed on from landing the Family Business of the Year at the same awards in 2017.

Jan Lord, who bought the firm with husband Derek in 2003, is the business development manager of the business which employs 11, including six family members.

She said: “We were thrilled to win. It was a well-kept secret and I had no idea until our name was announced and I dropped my mobile with shock.

“We didn’t expect to win as the standard of those on the shortlist was very high and it was probably the strongest category.”

Judges were impressed by Guide Bridge MOT & Service Centre’s green credentials, their staff training and the fact they are the only fully approved RAC Garage in the area.

She also pointed out it was a conscious decision to have a female at front of house because some women remain wary about taking their car into a garage.

Jan, who spoke about being proud of the team, added it is very much a family orientated business which is located at Unit 5, South Street and close to the M60.

They are looking to expand further by installing another ramp which will increase the size of the workforce.

Jan is also heavily involved in charitable work as a founding trustee of the Masterserve Foundation with Guide Bridge MOT & Service Centre one of 460 garages which contribute one per cent of invoice values.

Garages can nominate charities and each quarter about £30,000 is handed out. Local organisations to benefit have been Willow Wood Hospice and The Anthony Seddon Fund.
