LOCAL windsurfers are officially the best in the North West for the third year running – then it was taking on the rest of the country.Debdale Outdoor Activities Centre (DOAC) triumphed again in the Royal Yachting Association’s North West T15 Interclub title.
Debdale Diamonds, as their team is known, won the final heat of the competition on home water on Sunday, August 18.
And they were not blown off course despite combating blustery conditions.
Opponents West Kirby Warriors and Hollingworth Hunters battled it out in a mixture of racing and skill competitions.
And the weather made for a fast-paced contest as competitors flew across the water, planing and making the most of the wind.
Debdale’s windsurfers looked amazing out on the new kit provided from a grant won by DOAC member Nicola Stockdale from watch company Panerai and she said it definitely made a massive improvement to their windsurfing.
After conquering the competition over four events, Debdale Diamonds, based at Debdale Park just by the border with Denton, headed to the Team15 Champions Cup.
There they faced the country’s other regional winners at Grafham Water at Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, on Saturday, September 7 and Sunday, September 8.
And they are officially one of top 10 teams in the country after finishing 10th out of 23 teams.
Individually, there were no prizes but some fine placings and three members have been invited to a selection event for the Royal Yachting Association’s North Zone Squad at the end of the month.
