Arrests made and stolen scooters recovered as police hunt group

POLICE have made a number of arrests after a gang of people on scooters sparked fear throughout the area.

Several incidents of people being targeted by the group had been reported, including across Oldham and in Saddleworth.

Now Greater Manchester Police officers say people have been arrested and stolen scooters recovered.

A spokesman for GMP said: “We can now confirm that a number of persons have been arrested and stolen scooters recovered following proactive work by officers.

“The offenders from the Denton area were chased and detained on the bank of a canal in Stalybridge following a machete attack on a male who had been riding a motorbike and subsequently confronted in the Tameside area.

“One of the scooters recovered was stolen from the Dobcross area.”

Further details of those arrested have not been released but police say they wanted to let people know as the group had been very active and responsible for a number of crimes across not only the Saddleworth area but further afield.
