Casey in major mode to seal President’s Prize

CASEY Holland Dean was in major mode at Denton Golf Club as he triumphed in the 36-hole President’s Prize.

The major, played to a Stableford format over consecutive days, saw Casey amass 41 and 35 points for a two-round total of 76.

He finished four points clear of runner-up Martin Unsworth (34 and 38 for 72) while third place went to Mike Gill (39 and 32 for 71).

In the opening round the 1-2-3 went to Casey (41pts), Ian Parkinson (40) and Mike Gill (39).

And leading the way in the second round was Martin Unsworth (38) from runner-up Mike Griffin (36) and Rick Palmer (36).

Winners of the Myers Mixed Major were club president Norma Boott and past captain David Hughes with 74.

In second place was Laraine Gordon and Sajid Baloch (75.5).

The Wednesday Bowl, a midweek major, is underway with three of the five qualifiers having been staged.

The opener was won by Milo Murphy (68) from Joel King (69) and Keith Halliwell (70).

Nik Coburn (70) won the second qualifier from runner-up Mark Cole and Jack Suttie (both 71).

And in the third, victory went to Dean Murray (67) from Mark Cole (68) and Mark Riding (69).

Runaway victor in the monthly medal was Paul Griffin (63) from second-placed Milo Murphy and Nik Coburn (both 71).

The Captain’s and President’s Charity Am Am, to raise funds for Help for Heroes, was won by the team comprising John Bennett, Paul Welsby, Brad Waterfall and Paul Fox.
