New set-up coming at Denton Town

THE WINDS of change are sweeping through Denton Town with the news a new managerial set-up is coming in for the new season.

And until everything is sorted, no pre-season matches can be confirmed.

Chairman Phil Bentley is currently re-modelling the way the club works ahead of its centenary season after relegation from Cheshire Football League, Premier Division.

And the Correspondent has learned part of that will mean a new man in charge of the first team at Whittle’s Farm.

Talks have been taking place this week with the new incumbent about how he wants the team to work, operate and who he wants to play in preparation for what is a pivotal year.

One familiar face has returned after former player and manager Craig Theobald took a role on the committee while sides other than the first team face a big summer.

The Under-19s, who won the Tameside Football League, have a decision to make on where they play next season.

Mr Bentley explained: “Options are being looked at as a number of leagues have expressed their willingness to have them

“A decision is imminent.”

Denton Town’s veterans team, which walked away with the Cheshire Veterans Football League, Division Two title, may end up being promoted two levels.

A restructure may see them go straight to the Premier Division after having only lost one of its first 14 games.

But as Mr Bentley explained: “This could be a tough call but Lee Paul and Steve O’Connor, who do great job with vets, will always give there all with a smile on their faces and jokes a plenty.”

Mr Bentley also spared a word for some late supporters and friends of the club, adding: “We at Denton Town FC would also like to mention our lovely immediate neighbours Ron and Silvia, who we have lost in last two years.

“They will be sadly missed by all at Denton Town FC.”

The season may have finished but that does not mean the end of the action at Denton Town.
On Saturday, June 29, Whittle’s Farm hosts a walking football tournament as part of the club’s centenary celebrations.

All are welcome to head down for what should be fun day.
