Cromwell High School pupils to benefit from new outdoor gym thanks to £9,000 grant

CHILDREN at a Tameside school are set to benefit from a new outdoor gym after receiving a £9,000 grant.

Jonathan Reynolds MP visited Cromwell to celebrate the funding from the Morrisons Foundation – the charitable arm of the supermarket – which will be used to install the new outdoor facility.

Jonathan Reynolds MP celebrated Cromwell High school’s grant funding with headteacher Suzanne Pass and Gemma Jones and Alison Cox from Morrisons Dukinfield.

Based in Dukinfield, the school supports pupils with severe and complex autism, severe and complex learning difficulties, and profound and multiple learning difficulties.

The new outdoor gym is designed to help children stay active while also providing opportunities for sensory regulation, supporting both their physical health and emotional wellbeing.

During his visit, Mr Reynolds praised the school and the impact the funding will have on pupils and their families.

He said: “It was a pleasure to visit Cromwell High School and celebrate this fantastic £9,000 grant from the Morrisons Foundation.

“Cromwell provides outstanding support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities, helping them to develop their confidence, independence and skills in a caring and inclusive environment.

“This investment in an outdoor gym will make a real difference to pupils’ health and wellbeing, giving them more opportunities to be active, develop physically and enjoy the benefits that exercise can bring.

“I would like to thank the Morrisons Foundation and the team at Morrisons Dukinfield for their support of this important project and the positive impact it will have on young people and their families.”

Lydia Seton, teacher and chair of Team Cromwell at the school, said: “Seeing the joy on our pupils’ faces every day as they use the new outdoor gym has been truly wonderful.

“Thanks to the generosity of the Morrisons Foundation, our students now have a brilliant space to stay active, burn off energy, and find calm through sensory regulation whenever they need it.”

Alison Cox, Community Champion at Morrisons Dukinfield, added: “Supporting our local community is at the heart of everything we do at the Morrisons Foundation.

2This school plays such a vital role in our town, and we’re absolutely delighted to present this cheque on behalf of the Morrisons Foundation.

“We know this outdoor equipment will make a real difference to the pupils’ health, wellbeing and daily enjoyment. The Morrisons Foundation is incredibly proud to contribute to such an essential cause and help them continue their amazing work.”

The Morrisons Foundation was established in 2015 and provides grants to charity projects that improve people’s lives. Since its launch, the foundation has donated more than £48 million to hundreds of charities across England, Scotland and Wales.
