Smiling out on the main road of Stamford Street, a spiritual haven in Stalybridge glows with the scent of incense, crystals, and a calm that regulars say greets you the moment you step inside.
Earth Spirit & Healing Gardens is more than just a shop, rooted in connection, compassion, and the belief that caring for the Earth isn’t confined to a single day, but lived out every day.
For Kerbie and Sarah Marolia, the couple behind the space, the concept is personal.
“I’m all spirit and Sarah is all earth,” Kerbie explains. “So we’ve combined the two and become Earth Spirit.”
Together, they’ve built something that blends creativity, healing, and community.
“Most people come in and just feel calm,” he says. “We’ve been here for 13 years – unlucky for some – but for us, it’s our unique space.”
Around 80 percent of what fills the shop is made locally in Stalybridge; from original artwork and clothing to music. While crystals sourced from across the globe bring a wider sense of connection.
The “gardens” in their name isn’t just literal. It’s aspirational. A metaphor for peace and tranquillity, and a nod to their long-term vision of creating a physical garden space where people can come to reconnect with nature and themselves.
Kerbie, a Reiki master of 35 years, offers meditation classes and workshops designed to help people connect internally.
That sense of grounding feels especially relevant on Earth Day. For Kerbie, the message is simple but profound: “It should be about being compassionate, being loving to every last living being. Walk here, respect it, feel it. Look up at the sky, breathe it. That’s what I truly believe. Earth Day is every day.”

He smiles as he adds, only half-joking, “Stalybridge is the heart chakra of the world. It’s a beautiful place.”
Alongside this spiritual focus, Sarah brings a different but complementary kind of care through her work as The Skin Wytch—spelled with a ‘y’, not an ‘i’. Her approach to skincare mirrors the same Earth-first philosophy: mindful, holistic, and grounded in understanding the body as a whole.
“The skin itself is an organ,” she explains. “It’s the biggest organ of your body, and it’s really important what you put on it.” She’s passionate about shifting how people think about skincare.

Her treatments include advanced options like microneedling and LED therapy, but she’s equally focused on empowering clients to take control of their own routines. Through online memberships, live weekly classes, and occasional five-week face yoga courses, she teaches techniques people can carry into their daily lives.
“If you wanted a six-pack, massaging your belly all day won’t give you one, you have to exercise it,” she says. “It’s the same with your face.”
Sarah describes her philosophy as “360-degree skincare” working on the surface while also encouraging deeper habits that support long-term health. It’s a partnership between practitioner and client, much like Earth Spirit itself is a partnership.
For Kerbie and Sarah the idea that caring for the planet starts with caring for ourselves, our communities, and the energy we bring into the world.
