A MOSSLEY arts centre is opening its doors to local residents every Wednesday afternoon this winter.
The Vale is offering a warm place to meet, create and socialise with free activities, tea and biscuits included.
Wednesday Welcome, running from 1pm to 3pm, will take place throughout February and March, providing a weekly drop-in space during the coldest months of the year. The sessions are open to anyone and require no booking or previous creative experience.

Alongside offering a warm and welcoming environment, the sessions feature free, artist-led creative workshops designed to support wellbeing and connection. The 12-week programme is funded through a Community Winter Support grant from Tameside Council.
Over the next six weeks, the workshops will be led by Mossley-based artist Lizzie Rigby, who will work with participants to create a collaborative artwork celebrating diversity and inclusion.
The project will involve using recycled materials to learn applique and embroidery techniques.
Once completed, the artwork will be displayed at George Lawton Hall in Mossley and at a local library. Its creation has also received funding from a Too Great for Hate community grant, supported by Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Tameside Council.
Previous sessions have included willow weaving workshops led by Jayne McLean Kremer of Good Earth Community, which took place last month.
Jane Harris, community engagement lead at The Vale, said the sessions offer more than just creative activity.
“We offer a friendly and welcoming environment which means the sessions are creatively satisfying and really good for wellbeing. We’d encourage anyone who is interested to come along and enjoy the facilities at The Vale.”
The final Wednesday Welcome session will take place on April 1, 2026.
