Denton candidate believes area can start rebuild of Britain

THE LATEST candidate to be declared for the Gorton and Denton by-election believes the area can be the start of Britain’s rebuild.

Sebastian Moore has been selected by the Social Democratic Party to stand in the February 26 poll.

And the volunteer at Burnage Food Bank, which is part of the constituency, feels his party’s approach can set the country on the right path.

He said: “I’m standing in this by-election to set out a positive vision for our area and our country.

“If we want to rebuild Britain, we have to start in places like Gorton and Denton – improving housing, strengthening social cohesion and creating meaningful work, with communities empowered to drive the change that’s needed.

“I’m proud to be standing in the city I now call home.”

Mr Moore, who hails from Dorset, is the North West chair of the SDP, which calls itself the party of the patriotic state.

After spending many years working abroad, he moved back to the UK in 2022 and made Manchester his home.

He joined the SDP the following year, drawn by its alignment with his values and agreeing on the need for a new economic model.

And he stood as its candidate in Manchester Central at the 2024 General Election.

SDP Leader William Clouston said: “Sebastian has been tireless in building our party across the North West.

“He understands the concerns of working people in constituencies like Gorton and Denton – on housing, on jobs, on the cost of living.

“He provides a serious alternative.”
