CLASSIC comedy will be back on the menu as Hyde Fundraisers prepare to serve up another of their popular Character Curry nights in Audenshaw.
The event takes place on February 17 at The Indian Plaza, where familiar film, TV and sci-fi characters will be mingling with diners to raise money for a wide range of good causes.
Organised in association with Councillor Denise Ward, the evening will support BBC Children in Need, alongside donations to The Ricky Hatton Foundation, Tameside Young Carers, Reuben’s Retreat, Willow Wood Hospice and KidsCan, the Salford-based children’s cancer research charity.

Among the characters expected to make an appearance are Wallace & Gromit, The Predator and The Joker, but this year’s event will also feature a comedy double act with a strong local connection.
Laurel & Hardy, portrayed by Stuart and Graham from Hyde’s Sailors Beware group, will be attending, bringing a touch of slapstick nostalgia to the evening. The duo are well known for their appearances at community events, celebrating the enduring legacy of the famous film comedians.
Adding to the photo opportunities will be BB-8, the Star Wars robot created by Hyde volunteer Pete Brocklehurst, who has become a familiar sight at fundraising events across Tameside.
Steve Haines, from Hyde Fundraisers, said: “What a great night of family entertainment we have raising money for some good causes. Laurel & Hardy are also my favourites and these chaps bring them to life impeccably. There’s also live music courtesy of performer Roger De Genero with some great ballads with a few numbers from young Jack Doyle and also a great prize raffle too!”
The raffle, being organised by Cllr Ward, is expected to be a key part of the evening’s fundraising. Anyone wishing to donate prizes can contact her directly via Denise.Ward@tameside.gov.uk
The event begins at 6pm, with ticket holders treated to poppadoms, chutneys and a curry, alongside the novelty of dining among an eclectic cast of characters.
Tickets are priced at £20 for adults and £5 for children under 10, and organisers say places are filling quickly. To book, call 0161 371 7474.
