Trio jailed following Ashton robberies

THREE men have been handed lengthy prison sentences after committing a series of robberies in Ashton-under-Lyne.

In April, a homeowner was threatened with a knife after his car alarm was activated when the window was smashed and he confronted three men. A necklace was stolen.

In the second incident, a male victim was made to drive to a cashpoint and withdraw £50, while a day later a taxi driver was attacked and dragged from his car.

Now Aron McGinn and Ryan Stone, of Diamond Close and Richmond Street in the town respectively, and Jordan Bayley, of Whittles Avenue in Denton, have been handed sentences totalling more than 20 years.

All pleaded guilty to robbery with McGinn also pleading guilty to possession of a knife.

McGinn, 31, was jailed for 10 years and four months at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday, December 18.

Stone, 29, was sentenced to six years and nine months and 26-year-old Bayley three years and 10 months.

The sentences follow an investigation by Tameside CID with arrests made about an hour after the third robbery.

Detective Constable Martin Gregory said: “These are three dangerous and violent men who will be spending a lot of time behind bars.

“Their attacks left their victims with physical and mental scars, and hopefully they will now feel the justice has been done.”
