Christmas came early for 160 children across Tameside last week as Father Christmas and his elf paid a festive visit to local family hubs aboard the Santa Bus.
The event, organised by Tameside Council, saw families enjoy a day of gifts, photos and seasonal activities, supported by children’s services staff and council partners.
Each child received a wrapped storybook thanks to sponsorship from civil engineering company Joseph Gallagher. The firm also donated ten air fryers, 30 One4All vouchers worth £15 each, and ten Christmas hampers to support local families.

Joseph Gallagher’s support will continue into the new year, with plans to transform the South Family Hub’s community garden in Hyde. The company is also exploring the installation of defibrillators at each hub.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Children and Families Cllr Teresa Smith said:
“Our staff’s passion and commitment shone through at the Santa Bus event, creating special memories for children and their families. Thanks to Joseph Gallagher’s continued support, we’re helping to make our family hubs safer and more welcoming spaces, not just at Christmas but throughout the year.
“This partnership, alongside the dedication of our family hub teams, shows the real difference collaboration can make for children and families across the borough.”
