Northern releases festive travel advice calendar

Train operator Northern has published a travel advice calendar setting out how rail services will run over the Christmas and New Year period, helping passengers plan journeys during the festive season.

The calendar covers services from late December through to early January and highlights key dates where timetables will differ from normal. As in previous years, services will finish earlier than usual on Christmas Eve, and there will be no Northern train services running on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

Reduced and amended timetables will operate on several other days over the festive period, reflecting lower passenger demand and planned engineering works across parts of the network. Passengers travelling around New Year are also advised to allow extra time, as some routes may be affected by ongoing improvement works.

Northern says the calendar is intended to give passengers a clear overview of what to expect, allowing people to plan ahead and avoid unnecessary disruption during one of the busiest times of the year.

Passengers are encouraged to check journey details in advance and confirm train times before travelling, particularly on key festive dates.
