Apple shines spotlight on tech-savvy pupils at Mossley school

PUPILS at Micklehurst All Saints CE Primary School have caught the attention of global tech giant Apple.

The company chose the Mossley school for a national case study, highlighting its cutting-edge use of iPads in the classroom.

The recognition comes after years of investment in digital learning at Micklehurst, where teachers and pupils have embraced technology as a creative tool rather than just a subject.

Since launching a 1:1 iPad scheme for Key Stage 2 back in 2020, lessons have been transformed – from green screen tourism projects to interactive factfiles and multimedia presentations.

Teachers have also undergone specialist training to help them embed technology across all areas of the curriculum, while pupils are encouraged to use apps like iMovie, Keynote, and Pages to showcase their learning in new and inventive ways.

Central to this transformation is the school’s team of digital leaders – a group of nine pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 who act as tech members for both their peers and staff.

Selected through a written application and interview process, the digital leaders deliver lessons, review educational apps, support workshops, and even lead assemblies for events such as Safer Internet Day.

Their growing expertise recently earned them a starring role in Apple’s official video case study, filmed at the school last half term and available to watch on the school’s website. Working alongside a professional film crew, the pupils helped capture footage, shared their experiences on camera, and showcased the school’s creative approach to learning.

The school says the recognition is a testament not just to its investment in devices, but to the collaborative effort of pupils and staff to make digital learning meaningful. Lessons now routinely feature augmented reality, film-making, and interactive projects that link subjects in imaginative ways.
