Six Tameside towns on Lidl’s new store ‘wanted list’

FIVE Tameside towns have been listed on a supermarket giant’s ‘wanted list’ of new sites.

And Lidl wants to relocate its Denton store.

The company has launched its plan to open hundreds of outlets around the country.

It has now issued a call to people to put forward for what it calls, ‘great quality locations for our new stores, to help us continue our phenomenal growth.’

And Droylsden, Ashton-under-Lyne, Stalybridge, Hyde and Mossley are on a lengthy list.

Denton, which already has a Lidl on Manchester Road, is also included for a relocation.

There is already a store in Ashton, but this desire is to have one in the ‘north’ of the town.

Although, Audenshaw – where Lidl has already made moves to take on the site of The Pearl restaurant when its lease expires in 2029 – is not mentioned.

A brochure drawn up by Lidl states a list of what it wants, saying: “Lidl has ambitious plans to open hundreds of new stores across Great Britain.

“This means we are looking to acquire sites that meet our standard store format requirements.

“Prominent locations with easy access and strong pedestrian or traffic flow.

“Freehold, leasehold or long leasehold opportunities.

“Unit sizes between 18,000 and 26,500 sq ft and 100+ dedicated car parking spaces.

“1.5+ acres for standalone stores or up to four acres for mixed-use schemes.

“Town centre or edge of centre and retail parks.”

People putting areas forward have also been tod what they can gain with a competitive finder’s fee structure for new site introductions promised.

They also promise a response within seven days, 10 per cent of year one rent for leaseholds and 1.5 per cent of freeholds for a previously unknown site.

Should any new site be taken on, Lidl says it will install electronic vehicle chargers installed for all new store openings and at every new build store.

The Tameside areas are on a list of more almost 500 across the country and any new stores would require planning permission before any spades can enter the ground.
