A FAMILIAR landmark on the Denton landscape will soon be no more as the town’s Labour Club is closing after 67 years.
The venue, on Ashton Road, will see its final pint pulled at the end of October because of financial difficulties.
It has already hosted its last Northern Soul event, organised by Denton Soul Club, and there was a tinge of sadness at its popularity.
A spokesperson for the Soul Club, which held events there for 18 years, said it was, ‘packed – just as Denton used to be.’
They added: “We had to shut the door at 9pm. If only the support was there every month, it wouldn’t have closed.

“It was out of our hands as the club is closing its doors at the end of the month.
“Thank you to our lovely friends of 18 years for lovely gifts, cards and lovely words.
“There were tears. We are going to miss you all – amazing memories made with friends for life.
“It’s never goodbye, it’s see you soon.”
As well as its soul events, Denton Labour Club has been a central venue for all kinds of community groups.
It has history dating as far back as 1958 and has served as a live music venue and club space ever since.
Now many are looking for alternative accommodation as the financial climate has made it impossible to keep open.
A New Year’s Eve event that would have been hosted by the Soul Club had already been advertised.
But the decision to close meant its cancellation.
It is also the registered address for Denton Labour Party (Holdings) Ltd.
