ASHTON town centre will come alive next weekend with a celebration of Oktoberfest, promising live music, comedy and a showcase of local food and drink businesses.
The free event takes place on Saturday, October 4 from 11am to 2pm, organised by Ashton Town Team and Tameside Markets as part of efforts to spotlight independent traders and draw people into the heart of the town.
Oktoberfest, a tradition that began in Munich more than 200 years ago, is famous worldwide for its mix of music, dancing, food and drink. While the Ashton version has a more family-friendly feel, organisers say the spirit of fun and community is very much at its core.
Shoppers and visitors can expect performances from local talents Natalie Cuifo, Tom Stevenson and Ethan Booth, while Ashton Market Hall will feature a Heritage photo display offering a glimpse into the town’s past.
Adding a comic twist, the much-loved “Dinner Ladies” Freda and Rita are set to bring their trademark laughs and cheeky humour to the day.
Organisers hope the festival will not only entertain but also give local traders a welcome boost.
Ashton Oktoberfest is supported by the UK Government, Greater Manchester Combined Authority and Tameside Council. Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy an afternoon of food, drink and entertainment at the heart of the town centre.
