Concerts by candlelight to illuminate Stalybridge this Autumn

THIS autumn, Stalybridge will be bathed in the warm glow of candlelight and the brilliance of live classical music with the launch of the first Concerts by Candlelight series.

Held at the beautiful Victoria Market Hall (Stalybridge Civic Hall), the concerts promise an evening featuring both rising stars and seasoned classical performers.

Launching on Friday, October 3, the opening concert will feature a stunning double bill:

  • The Talland String Quartet and students from the Royal Northern College of Music will kick off the evening with timeless autumnal classics, from Haydn to Tchaikovsky.
  • Vulva Voce, fresh from Glastonbury, will follow with genre-defying pieces from their debut EP Maddalena, blending classical, folk, jazz, and techno in a bold celebration of underrepresented voices in music.

Tickets are on sale online at www.intameside.co.uk, priced at £9 per person, with concessions available.

The first concert will be followed by a spring event on Sunday, March 8  2026, celebrating International Women’s Day. This performance will feature the incredible Untold Orchestra and pay tribute to musical legends from Aretha Franklin to Taylor Swift, with local women’s choirs also taking the stage in a powerful celebration of female artistry.

The Concerts by Candlelight series is part of the vibrant new programme at Stalybridge Civic Hall, bringing fresh cultural experiences, live music, and community events to the heart of Tameside.

Cllr Leanne Feeley, Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, said:

“The summer programme has been brilliant! Both the comedy weekend and the Pop-Up Beach have been really popular with all ages and families. The Candlelight concerts will bring something different again and it’s a great opportunity for everyone to experience something special, as well as for those who already love classical music to enjoy! It’s going to be really magical, and I can’t wait to see the Hall in full glow!”

Whether you’re a classical music enthusiast, a curious newcomer, or simply looking for a unique night out, these concerts welcome everyone.
