Woman prosecuted for second Tameside fly tip

A STALYBRIDGE woman has been prosecuted for fly tipping for a second time – after dumping her household waste in the exact same spot as the first.

Sarah Audin, of Poplars Road, left several bin bags and old furniture in an alleyway to the rear of Kings Road and Kenworthy Avenue in Ashton-under-Lyne on July 31, 2023.

The 37-year-old. who was living at Kings Road at the time of the offence, was served with a fixed penalty notice and she was written to on two further occasions – but all correspondence was ignored.

In 2024, Ms Audin failed to attend court and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

She eventually attended and pleaded not guilty to charges of causing the deposit of controlled or extractive waste in or on and without a permit and failing to take measures to secure the transfer of household waste.

A trial was arranged for Friday, September 19. However, on the day she changed her plea to guilty.

The court ordered her to pay a total of £1,305, including a £432 fine, £200 clean-up costs, £500 prosecution costs and a £173 victim surcharge.

She was previously prosecuted for littering in the same alleyway on January 4, 2023. On that occasion she said that she had left a bin bag on top of her bin.

Tameside Council’s executive member, Cllr Laura Boyle, said: “There is no excuse for fly tipping.

“I’s a criminal offence and is a blight on our communities, with offenders showing no care for the local community or environment.

“I know that most people take pride in their homes and local areas and dispose of their waste responsibly.

“Where people don’t – and where we find evidence – we will always take enforcement action against them on behalf of the local community.

“In this case I hope the person involved is finally understanding now that fly tipping is not acceptable and there are consequences to the crime.”
