Mossley art club boosted by community grant

MOSSLEY Community Centre’s popular Friday Art Club has received a £1,000 grant to help keep its sessions running.

The weekly group, which welcomes people of all ages, gives locals the chance to learn new skills, make friends and tap into the wellbeing benefits of art.

Thanks to the funding, organisers say the club can continue to provide a space where creativity and community go hand in hand.

The money has come from the Elizabeth Way Community Assistance Programme – a charitable fund run by Elizabeth Way & Company Funeral Directors.

Since it launched last year, the programme has supported 10 grassroots projects across the area, ranging from bereavement support to schemes tackling social isolation.

Funeral director Ben McCutcheon said it’s been eye-opening to see the impact small-scale funding can make.

“We are really pleased to be able to support Mossley Community Centre with its art club, which is such a positive initiative for local people,” he said.

“Bringing people together and giving them the chance to express themselves makes a real difference to wellbeing. It has been a privilege to meet and learn about so many inspiring local projects during the course of this programme.”

The programme has now reopened for its third and final round of grants, with up to £1,000 available for projects within three miles of the funeral home on Stamford Street.

Local not-for-profit groups can apply until the deadline at midday on October 27.

Previous grants have covered activities in health, education, employment opportunities and projects tackling poverty or social deprivation.
