Festive finale as Denton’s beloved Luncheon club pauses after 15 years

AFTER 15 years of bringing people together, Denton’s much-loved Luncheon Club is drawing to a temporary close – but it bowed out in true festive spirit.

The club, which has been a lifeline for many older residents, has been based at Denton Festival Hall – a venue that has hosted countless community events over the decades. The building will now close its doors as part of a major redevelopment project.

Volunteers at Denton Festival Hall for the festive finale

Backed by £16.8 million from the government’s Levelling Up Fund – including £2 million earmarked for Peel Street – the site is set to be transformed into a mix of residential and community space for the future.

But before the lights went out, there was one last celebration to remember. Volunteers, joined by councillors Denise Ward and Vincent Ricci, pulled out all the stops to host a Christmas-themed finale.

Tables were decked with festive decorations, crackers were pulled, carols filled the hall, and plates were piled high for a proper seasonal feast.

Although this marks the end of an era at Festival Hall, the story doesn’t stop here. Plans are already in place for the Luncheon Club to resume in a new location shortly – on a smaller scale – ensuring its spirit of friendship and community continues.
