Crimewatchers celebrate 5 years with community Dog Show

DROYLSDEN’S much-loved volunteer group, Crimewatchers, marked its fifth anniversary with a lively dog show that brought together families, pets, and supporters for a day of celebration.

The event took place on Sunday, September 21st at The Kings Head, where local residents and dog lovers gathered for competitions, raffles, and a few very special guests.

Visitors were treated to an appearance from K-9, the iconic robot dog from Doctor Who, courtesy of Hyde Fundraisers, as well as Henry, the well-known Blue Peter dog, who attended with his owner.

To mark the milestone, a specially decorated cake and cupcakes were shared with the crowd.

The anniversary comes shortly after the sad loss of Shadow, the German Shepherd who had been at the heart of Crimewatchers since the group was founded.

Shadow died in April after being struck in a suspected hit-and-run while out on patrol with founder Andy.

Crimewatchers – founded by Andy of Droylsden and originally patrolling alongside Shadow – have become a familiar presence on local streets.

Over the past five years the group has recovered stolen vehicles, reunited sentimental items, prevented burglaries, supported vulnerable residents, and even intervened in life-threatening situations. Their work has drawn attention beyond the borough, with coverage by the BBC, Channel 5, and Rolling Stone magazine.
