Denton man jailed for committing ‘sustained sexual attack’ in Hyde

A DENTON man has been jailed for 12-and-a-half years after raping a woman in Hyde in a ‘sustained sexual attack.’

Brandon Smith, of Larch Road, grabbed his victim on July 5, 2024 and threatened to stab her if she made any noise.

He then dragged her down a path off King Street and Pitt Street before carrying out his sickening crimes.

He told the woman he had been watching her for six months and following the attack, he made threats to harm her family if she said anything.

Following an investigation, 25-year-old Smith was arrested two days later and after being found guilty following a trial at Bolton Crown Court of two counts of rape, two counts of sexual assault and one assault by penetration on January 8, he was sentenced on Wednesday, April 30.

After Smith was jailed and told he will then serve three years on extended licence, Detective Constable Kim Daniel, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “Firstly, I must thank the victim having the strength and courage to come forward and allow us to fully investigate this case.

“This allowed us to take a dangerous offender off the streets and away from harming other potential victims.

“Smith maintained throughout the trial that he had never met the woman before, yet forensic evidence made it clear that he had been in contact with the woman. Smith offered no defence throughout the trial.

“We encourage anyone who has been a victim of sexual assault, or knows someone who has, to come forward and speak to the police.

“We will listen to you, and we will investigate.”
