AN ASHTON man died from multiple injuries after falling from a motorway bridge – but a coroner could not rule he took his own life.
Paul Carpenter was found by motorists on the hard shoulder of the M67 close to junction four at Hattersley.
But after the discovery on February 1, an inquest could not determine the 68-year-old died by suicide.
In a narrative conclusion, senior coroner Alison Mutch said: “It is clear from the evidence we have heard that the police were able to identify Paul Carpenter, a self-employed contractor retired.

“He left a family behind. Police have attended and there’s no suggestion he was struck by a vehicle.”
Mr Carpenter’s GP, Dr Nabeel Arshad from Brooke GP Surgery in Hyde, confirmed he had not made a complaint about his mental health to doctors.
And the coroner said she was not completely satisfied that Mr Carpenter took his own life.
She added: “Nobody saw him at the point when he fell and there are no notes and nothing on his phone.
“I am not satisfied I can record a conclusion of suicide.”
