Late teenager’s dad wants ‘to see what really happened’

THE FATHER of a teenager who died when a car he was driving hit a wall in Stalybridge wants ‘to see what really happened.’

A full inquest into the death of Shae Marlow will be held in November but at a hearing on Friday, August 26, father Malcolm outlined his aims.

His son died when the Volkswagen Gold he was behind the wheel of collided with a wall on Wakefield Road on Tuesday, November 3.

Even though Greater Manchester Police said in a statement the 16-year-old were called to an ‘attempted burglary’ at a shop on Ambleside at Ridge Hill, Mr Marlow disputes that link.

And at South Manchester Coroners Court, he said: “I just want to ask my questions to see what really happened.”

Shae’s inquest has been adjourned ‘several’ times, because of issues including the family’s legal representation, its observation of CCTV footage and attendance of four potential witnesses.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct opened an investigation into the incident, which occurred a short time after the police pursuit started

And a spokesman confirmed to The Correspondent that it found no officers acted improperly.

They said: “We carried out an independent investigation into the actions of police prior to a fatal collision in Stalybridge on November 3.

“We completed our investigation in July and have provided a copy of our final report to HM Coroner, to assist with the inquest process, and Greater Manchester Police.

“During our investigation we did not find that any officers involved in this tragic incident may have committed a criminal offence or behaved in a manner justifying the bringing of disciplinary proceedings.

“We will publish our findings at the conclusion of the inquest process.
“Our thoughts remain with all those affected.”

The full hearing was scheduled to begin on Monday, November 14.

  1. It’s sad that a young lad lost his life, but he was driving a car under age, without a licence, and failed to stop for the police. People need to stop trying to shift blame to other people and admit this lad was in the wrong and only he is to blame for what happened.

Regardless of if he was involved in this attempted burglary or not, he got into that car, he started driving it, he chose not to stop for the police, and he ended up in the wall because of his own actions. Had he stopped, had he not driven the car, had he not got in, chances are he’d still be alive. Nothing else matters.

I’ve no doubt his family won’t be happy with the outcome of the hearing because they want it to be someone else’s fault. It’s like the families of terminally ill children who refuse to accept the doctors’ verdict and want 2nd, 3rd, 4th opinions, court injunctions, and everything else. Part of being an adult is accepting that other people know more than you do about certain things and that they should be trusted.

  2. POLICE NEED TO STOP CHASING CARS SUCH AS THIS SITUATION WHERE A YOUNG BOY LOSES HIS LIFE. OK HE SHOULD NOT OF BEEN IN THAT CAR ESPECIALLY AS HE HAD NO LICENCE N NO INSURANCE BUT THESE KIDS LOVE THE CHASE SO WHY GIVE IT??? Such a shame of that boys family has to now live without him🥲🥲😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
