A HYDE firm has seen actions suspended following a raid by officers investigating an ‘unauthorised tip.’
The Environment Agency, along with representatives from Tameside Council and Greater Manchester Police, descended on MD Waste Management, on Edward Street.
And after reports of accumulated waste at an unauthorised facility, the local authority has served a Temporary Stop Notice on the facility.
That requires the unauthorised use of the site to cease while enquiries continue, with the Environment Agency said to be carrying out its own enquiries into potential breaches of regulations.
Tameside Council and other agencies are believed to be working to secure the removal of the waste from the site and further action will be considered if required.
Photos shared on social media seem to portray the scale of the problem
A Tameside Council spokesperson said: “We’re working with the Environment Agency, supported by Greater Manchester Police, on the matter.

“We’ve served a Temporary Stop Notice at MD Waste Management Ltd, Edward Street, requiring the unauthorised use of the site – which does not have planning permission for waste transfer activity – to cease while investigations continue.
“We’re working with the landowner to ensure compliance with the notice and removal of the waste from the land.
“Waste crime harms local communities and the environment. Anyone with information can report it to the Environment Agency’s 24-hour incident hotline on 0800 80 70 60 or contact Tameside Council – publicprotection-es@tameside.gov.uk”
The Correspondent has also approached the Environment Agency and MD Waste Management for further comment.
