Funding up for grabs for Tameside groups tackling crime and inequality

COMMUNITY organisations across the borough are being urged to put forward their ideas as a new round of grant funding is now open.

The scheme invites Tameside-registered community groups, charities and community interest companies (CICs) to bid for support to deliver projects that improve green spaces, strengthen neighbourhoods and contribute to community safety.

The scheme is now in its fifth year

To be eligible, proposals must fall under one of three themes: preventing neighbourhood crime; reducing harm and offending; or strengthening communities and tackling inequalities.

Applications close on Friday, March 27, with shortlisted groups then invited to attend a special event where projects will be presented to an audience, who will vote on which initiatives they want to see funded.

Previous rounds have backed a wide range of grassroots projects – from transforming neglected green spaces and supporting wildlife, to growing food, building friendships and creating safe, creative activities for residents of all ages.

Organisers say the funding has helped boost confidence, encourage volunteering and bring people from different backgrounds together.

Mossley councillor Stephen Homer, Tameside Council’s Executive Member for Towns, Transport and Connectivity, said: “The grant funding is an excellent opportunity for community organisations and charities to receive some financial support for the fantastic work they do. We also encourage under-represented and new groups to apply!

“This is a great way to invest in our local communities and create a safer Tameside.”

Guidance notes, the application form and videos from previous years are available on the council’s website here for groups considering a bid.
