Transformational donation set to improve women’s health services at Tameside Hospital

WOMEN’S health services at Tameside Hospital are set for a significant upgrade following a £165,000 donation from the League of Friends, made possible through the legacy of Mary Goodliffe JP.

The funding will support the relocation of the Women’s Health Unit to the Yellow Suite, where new modern procedure rooms and clinic spaces will be created. This forms part of a wider £588,000 investment in women’s healthcare, with the remaining costs covered through the Trust’s £1.2 million improvement fund.

The move to the Yellow Suite will provide a more comfortable and private environment for gynaecology and maternity patients and will support both routine and urgent care. The new area will also increase the number of procedures that can be carried out outside of operating theatres, help reduce waiting times and create enhanced training opportunities.

Zoe Turner, Divisional Director of Surgery, Women and Children’s, said:

“This project represents a significant moment for women’s services. The Yellow Suite will give us a modern, purpose-designed environment that supports high-quality patient care. It will improve comfort and privacy, increase the number of procedures we can offer and provide an excellent training space for future clinicians.”

Emily Whelan, Charity Manager at Tameside and Glossop NHS Charity, said:

“Mary Goodliffe’s legacy, shared through the League of Friends, will make a lasting difference to women and families across Tameside and Glossop. This support is helping us create a space where care can be delivered in a safer and more personalised way.”

The project supports the aims of the charity’s Everyone Matters Fund, which focuses on enhancing patient experience, supporting staff and improving the clinical environment. Work on the new facilities is scheduled to begin soon.
