Pennine Singers to present festive ‘Ceremony of Carols’ in Stalybridge

The Pennine Singers are inviting local residents to step into the spirit of the season with A Ceremony of Carols: an advent journey, taking place on Sunday, December 7 at 4.30pm.

The concert will be held at St Paul’s Church, Huddersfield Road, Copley, Stalybridge (SK15 2PT) and promises a magical blend of reflection, celebration and festive warmth.

At the heart of the programme is Benjamin Britten’s much-loved A Ceremony of Carols, performed by choir, soloists and harp. Its twelve movements shift beautifully from serene lullabies to joyful fanfares, each highlighting a different aspect of the Christmas story.

Choir member Katy Boulton said:

“A Ceremony of Carols captures the essence of Christmas. It’s an absolute treat to sing and to listen to. The harp has such a magical sound, and so Christmassy – don’t miss it!”

The performance will also include music themed around advent, light, reverence and joy, featuring traditional favourites In Dulci Jubilo and Gaudete, along with Macmillan’s radiant O Radiant Dawn and Peter Warlock’s poignant Bethlehem Down.

With its combination of quiet contemplation and festive uplift, the concert will offer an ideal way to prepare for Christmas.

Hot drinks –  including mulled cordial – and seasonal refreshments will be served during the interval.

Tickets cost £10 on the door, and under-18s go free. No advance booking is required.
